Rudra, as mentioned in the Rig Vedas is the most ancient form of Lord Shiva. Rudrabhisheka is the most favourite puja offered to Lord Shiva and therefore is known as Abhishekapriya.

Importance of Shatha Rudrabhisheka

Shatha Rudrabhisheka consists of completing the Rudradhyayam chants 108 times. This is said to result in wish fulfilment, removal of evil forces and all-round prosperity. The eleven Rudra forms of Lord Shiva are offered pujas during Shatha Rudra Abishekam by reciting Namakam, Chamakam and Rudram.

It is believed that on this day Lord Shiva was very pleased by the devotion of Parvati towards him and accepted her. Parvathi is considered as the supreme Divine Mother and all other goddesses are referred to as her incarnations or manifestations. Devotees take holy dip or bath in the sea and strongly believe that, all kinds of skin diseases will disappear.
